Settings & Troubleshooting

How to Use Settings & Troubleshoot

Tap the ... button in the top right of the home screen to open Settings.

What is in Settings

Profile holds your name, email, date of birth, gender, preferred voice, your coach's name, and your golf bag.

Round History lists every round you have completed.

Tutorials replays the short videos from when you first set up the app.

Play holds two settings, covered below.

Legal has the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, California Privacy Policy, and a link to Manage Subscription.

Support opens an email to us with your version number already filled in.

Trusted Partners lists the outside services PreSwing relies on, with a link to each one's terms.

Course Data is where you report a missing or incorrect course.

Data Sync holds Force Sync.

Delete Account is at the bottom.

Changing your distance unit

  1. Tap the ... button, the Settings
  2. Under Play , tap Distance Unit
  3. Choose Yards or Meters

It changes everywhere, including your Apple Watch. Nothing is converted or rewritten, so switching back and forth is safe.

Turning off auto-advance

Auto-advance is what makes your Apple Watch offer to move you to the next hole when you reach the next tee. It is on by default.

  1. Tap the ... button, then Settings
  2. Under Play , turn off Auto-advance to the next hole on Apple Watch

Editing your profile

  1. Tap the ... button, the Settings , the Profile
  2. Change what you need
  3. Tap Save Settings

You can also reach it by tapping the round letter avatar in the top left of the home screen.

My Coach Name is worth setting. Type your instructor's name and it appears throughout the app in place of the generic label.

Preferred Voice sets whether your typed tips are read in a male or female voice.

Manage My Golf Bag sets the clubs you pick from when you track a shot. Worth two minutes before your first round.

Running a Force Sync

Force Sync re-downloads everything from our servers. Nothing is deleted.

  1. Tap the ... button, then Settings
  2. Scroll to Data Sync and tap Force Sync
  3. Tap Sync Now

It takes a few minutes and needs a good connection, so do it on WiFi rather than on the first tee.

Reporting a course problem

If a course is missing, or its yardages or par are wrong:

  1. Tap the ... button, then Settings
  2. Under Course Data , tap Course Data Correction
  3. Fill in the course name and what is wrong
  4. Send it

Course data comes from iGolf, our mapping provider. New courses usually take about three business days and corrections about two.

Cancelling your subscription

Billing runs through your Apple ID, so cancelling happens through Apple.

  1. Tap the ... button, then Settings
  2. Under Legal , tap Manage Subscription

Or go directly: open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for, and nothing you have created is deleted.

Deleting your account

  1. Tap the ... button, then Settings
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account
  3. Read what will be removed, then tap Continue to Delete
  4. Sign in with Apple again to confirm it is you
  5. Tap Yes, Delete Forever

This is permanent. Your account, Skills, tips, recordings, rounds, and notes are all deleted and none of it can be recovered.

You need a connection. If it fails, nothing is deleted and you can try again.

If you only want a break, cancel your subscription instead. Your content stays where it is.

Something is not working

Three things fix most problems. Try them in order.

  1. Pull down on the home screen. This checks your subscription and pulls anything new. Five seconds, worth trying first.
  2. Close the app completely and reopen it. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, flick PreSwing away, and open it again.
  3. Force Sync. Steps above.

Your data

Your Skills, tips, recordings, and video live on your phone so they work without a signal, and on our servers so you do not lose them. Your rounds are on our servers, which is why they come back when you sign in on a new phone, and why Round History needs a connection.

We record where a tracked shot starts and ends, and the locations of the holes you play. Only shots you actually track.

We do not track you across other apps or websites, there is no analytics or advertising code in PreSwing, and we do not sell your data.

Questions

Audio will not play.
Usually a download that did not finish. Run Force Sync in Settings and try again. If the message says No Recording, that is different: it means nothing has been recorded for that Skill yet under My Voice or My Coach, and Force Sync will not help. Record something, or pick a different voice.

A Skill plays but it is not my tips.
The combined audio has not been built yet. Open the Skill, go to the Tips tab, and tap Play Tips once. That builds the file the Skills list plays from.

Something I added on my other device is missing.
Pull down on the home screen of the device that is missing it, then run Force Sync if that does not do it. If it still has not arrived, open PreSwing on the device where you created it, with a good connection, and leave it open for a minute. Content has to upload from one device before it can download to the other.

Will Force Sync delete anything?
No. It clears PreSwing's record of what it has already downloaded and pulls everything again from our servers. Your Skills, tips, recordings, and video all stay. It is safe to run whenever something looks wrong.

My distances are frozen or showing dashes.
PreSwing updates your position as you move, so a number that is not changing usually means you are standing still. Two dashes means there is no GPS fix yet, which happens under heavy tree cover or against a hillside. Give it a few seconds under open sky. If it never appears, check that Location is on for PreSwing in your iPhone Settings.

No nearby courses are showing.
Location permission is off. Open the Settings app on your iPhone, find PreSwing, and turn on Location. You can search for a course by name in the meantime, but you need location on for real distances during a round.

My round disappeared.
It did not. Tap PLAY and you will land back on the round settings screen with a Resume Round button. Rounds stay open until you tap Complete Round, and they survive closing the app or your phone dying.

Round History is empty or will not load.
Your rounds live on our servers, so Round History needs a connection. Check your signal. Also check whether you have a search term or a date filter still active, since either will narrow the list.

I paid but everything is still locked.
Open the subscription screen and tap Restore Purchases at the bottom. If that does not do it, close the app completely and reopen it. If you subscribed on a different Apple ID than the one you are signed into now, that is the usual cause.

I got signed out.
Sign in with Apple again and your content comes back from our servers. This usually happens after a dropped connection at the wrong moment. Do not delete and reinstall the app to fix it, since anything that had not finished uploading would be lost.

Everything is stuck and I have one bar.
A weak signal is worse than none, because the app waits rather than failing. Turn on Airplane Mode for a few seconds and turn it back off, which forces a clean reconnection.

How do I get in touch?
Use Contact Support in Settings, which fills in your version number automatically. Tell us what you were doing, the exact message or a screenshot, whether it was your iPhone or your Watch, and whether you had a good signal. A screenshot of the actual error is worth more than a description of it.
